the horizon has been defeated

i went on a bit of a road trip with a very good friend of mine last year, and she explained what jack j. was talking about in this song: when you are near santa barbara and you look westward over the ocean, you see these oil rig things and big ships and thus mr. jj casuals felt that the horizon had been defeated.

that's not what i'm talking about here, however.

the horizon is a very important concept in the world of dating (at least my world of dating, anyway). see, if i feel there is something on the horizon -- a pending date, a flirtatious e-mail, an introduction, what have you -- I always seem to feel a bit better about things. and dating, like life, tends to have its ebbs and flows so you can have a streak of things on the horizon, but at some point (unless you are incredibly lucky) there isn't anything there that you can see. i guess that's where i was this weekend. had a mediocre date on wednesday (capped off by the guy saying so, Amy, what's your number?...let's just say that that name does not reveal any pertinent information about the 'ole mysterydater. ugh...), attended a work function on friday (after which a bunch of the "cool kids" went to a bar, but i just don't feel like one of the cool kids these days...), went to a party on saturday that seemed like it could have some pretty good potential....and still i found myself alone in the drive through at Taco Bell at 1am (and in a bit of a senseless tiff with abovementioned very good friend. oy.).

it's not like i'm not "trying" or "putting myself out there" or whatever...as my bro said, "you are doing all the right things....you just can't control this." so true, so true.

so hopefully something will show up on the horizon here pretty soon...or there may be another crunchwrap supreme in my near future. (if you want to read something HI-lar-ious about the aforementioned creation of culinary genius, go here...)

that's it for now.

unless you are really having a hard time and need to smile, then you should go here.

I can't believe that movie isn't out yet. It must have actually made two years ago at this point.

I know what you mean about the horizon. And I agree 100%. But you're more proactive about the dating thing than anyone I know. There's only so much you can do, though, and your bro is right. Just have to focus on all the other good stuff (good friends, good education, decent job, own a house, live in a nice climate, ready access to Taco Bell) in the meantime and try not to tie too much self-worth to the dating thing. It can be tough, and I (along with some of our other acquaintances) are totally in the same boat. So you ain't alone - just cherish the good times that we have while they're here!
